SERVICE PROCEDURES

2017 Remote Installation (FIT4, GRIP, DPS, FLOAT X)

WARNING: Always wear safety glasses and protective gloves during service to prevent potential injury. Failure to wear protective equipment during service may lead to SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

The following instructions guide you through the assembly of the FOX 2pos lever onto GRIP and FIT4 damper equipped forks as well as FLOAT DPS and FLOAT X rear shocks.

Details regarding the installation of the FOX 3pos lever can be found in the 3pos Remote Lever Information section.

GRIP Remote Installation

Step 1

Install the remote lever onto your handlebar. Do not exceed 1.7 Nm (15 in-lb). Less torque may be needed for carbon bars. Refer to the handlebar manufacturer's instructions for use with carbon bars. Make sure to check for clearance between the remote lever and any brake or shifter controls.

img/help/page763-1YFW/IMG_0016-m.jpg

Step 2

Remove the plug that covers the cable insertion port on the remote lever. Make a slight bend in the inner cable approximately 20mm from the end. This will help the inner cable route through the internal passages of the lever. Install the inner cable into the cable insertion port that is aligned with the open cable exit port.

Step 3

For forks with the cable exiting the topcap at the rider's 1 o'clock position: Route cable housing from the fork topcap to the remote lever and cut to length.

For forks with the cable exiting the topcap at the rider's 7 o'clock position: Route cable housing from the fork topcap, around the rear of the crown, to the remote lever and cut to length.

Install a short peice of housing (approximately 2" or 50mm) with a ferrule on one end between the lever and in-line barrel adjuster. Install a ferrule on the end of the housing coming from the fork topcap at the in-line barrel adjuster. The end of the housing at the fork topcap does not require a ferrule.

Step 4

To setup a 2pos remote that actuates both the fork and shock, remove the plug from the second cable exit port then repeat steps 2 and 3. Route the cable housing to the rear shock, then follow the FLOAT DPS and FLOAT X Remote Installation » instructions.

img/help/page763-1YFW/IMG_0031-m.jpg

Step 5

Set the remote lever to Firm mode by pushing the longer actuation lever. Make sure that the cable head is completely seated in the remote lever. Replace the cover for the cable insertion port.

Step 6

For forks with the cable exiting the topcap at the rider's 1 o'clock position:

With a 5mm hex wrench, turn the remote pulley clockwise until you feel it lightly stop (approximately 4 in-lb), then hold in place. With all cable housing fully seated and no slack in the system, thread the inner cable through the cable housing and around the fork remote pulley. While gently holding the remote pulley against the clockwise stop with your 5mm hex wrench, tighten the pinch bolt.

For forks with the cable exiting the topcap at the rider's 7 o'clock position, skip to GRIP Remote Install step 8.

img/help/page763-1YFW/IMG_0007-m.jpg

Step 7

Release the 5mm hex wrench, cut off the excess inner cable, and install a cable end crimp. The in-line barrel adjuster may be used to change the lockout blow-off force. Clockwise barrel adjustment increases blow-off force, while counter-clockwise adjustment decreases blow-off force.

Step 8

For forks with the cable exiting the topcap at the rider's 7 o'clock position:

With a 5mm hex wrench, turn the remote pulley clockwise until you feel it lightly stop, then hold in place. With all cable housing fully seated and no slack in the system, thread the inner cable through the cable housing and around the fork remote pulley. While gently holding the remote pulley against the clockwise stop with your 5mm hex wrench, tighten the pinch bolt.

Step 1

To install a 3pos Remote lever on a GRIP or FIT4 damper or FLOAT DPS or FLOAT X shock, install the remote lever onto your handlebar. Do not exceed 15 in.-lb (1.7 Nm) torque. Less torque may be needed for carbon bars. Please see bar manufacturer's instructions for use with carbon bars. Make sure to check for clearance between the remote lever and any brake or shifter controls.

The 3pos remote lever has a built in barrel adjuster an does not require an inline barrel adjuster.

For Forks: Install a ferrule on the remote lever end of your cable housing, the fork topcap end does not require a ferrule.

For Rear Shocks: Install ferrules on both ends of the cable housing.

WARNING: FOX products should be installed by a qualified bicycle service technician, in accordance with FOX installation specifications. If you have any doubts as to whether or not you can properly install the remote lever on your bicycle, defer to a professionally trained bicycle service technician. Improperly installed products can fail, causing the rider to lose control, potentially causing SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

WARNING:  Make sure that the remote lever does not interfere with normal brake and shift lever operation. Failure to do so can result in loss of control, potentially causing SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

NOTE: Actuate the release lever with the suspension unweighted for immediate changes between damping settings. Actuating the release lever with the suspension under load may cause a slight delay transitioning between damping modes.
